“The Terror of the Southlands” by Caroline Carlson is the second in the series “The Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates”.

After rescuing Augusta’s magic and landing her own father in jail, Hilary Westfield was given the title “The Terror of the Southlands”, but Captain Blacktooth, the president of the Very Nearly Honorable League of Pirates (the VNHLP), is unsure that she can live up to her title. He tasks her with defeating a sea serpent, or any other manner of bold and daring adventures so as to regain her title and her membership in the VNHLP. However, as Pirate Hilary and her crew are setting off on their journey, both the Enchantress of the Northlands and Jasper go missing! Pirate Hilary takes her first mate Charlie, her former governess, finishing school friend Claire, and of course the beloved gargoyle with her on a quest to find the kidnappers and return the Enchantress to Augusta, but they are in for a number of surprises.

I recommend this book for 8+, as it is a fun and lighthearted read, though at the plot can be confusing. However, as it has a number of references, readers should read the first book before this one. It is both funny and exciting, and I think it is a good book for lovers of all genres.
