Oliver and the Seawigs by Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre is a book that splashes with excitement and adventures.

Oliver Crisp is a ten year old boy who travels all around the world because his parents are explorers. They had explored so many things that one day they noticed there was nothing left to explore. They decided to live at a house near the ocean where they could stay put. When they get there, Oliver jumps out and runs to set up his own room. Mr. and Mrs. Crisp tell Oliver they are going to go explore one more time and will be back soon…..or will they?!

While Oliver’s parents are away, Oliver tries to help a small Rambling Isle named Cliff get his seawig. He and his new friends search for a wrecked ship called the Water Mole. They search for items to make the most interesting wig. Oliver and Cliff use seaweed, sand, wrecked ships, and pearls in hopes to win the yearly seawig competition.

Who will win? Will it be Thurlstone the no good, mean, dirty, rotten Isle or will it be Cliff, Oliver’s new friend.

This book is packed with wacky characters such as sea monkeys, mermaids, a grumpy albatross and even the Rambling Isles in search of the best seawig.

I would recommend this book for kids eight years and up because it was imaginable and had some mind blowing illustrations. It was an easy book. This is definitely a book you should “dive” into.
