"The Mega Rise" by J. V. Kade is about a human boy living in Robot Territory. His father is the leader of the Robot Rebellion, and his brother the hero of Robot Territory. Despite the fact that he was the one who did what his brother is honored for, Trout feels looked over and unimportant. Then, while spying on a Mega-Rise meeting, Trout and his friend Vee discover that a rogue robot named Ratch is interested in taking control of the robot civil rights movement. Trout and his friends are convinced that they can save Trout’s father, as well as to proving that they are the true heroes. One thing that I liked about this book was that the author gave Trout an ulterior motive, making it appeal to a wider range of readers, not just action fans. Another thing that I enjoyed was that Trout is not a stereotypical hero; he is a slightly dorky kid with a hunger for attention and information. However, the book can get slow, as the author tends to come back to the same point, over and over again.
I recommend this book for 8-14 year olds who enjoy adventure. If you've ever felt like you can't live up to the example of an older sibling, parent, or classmate, this is the book for you.
