The Mighty Miss Malone, written by Christopher Paul Curtis, who is also the author of Bud, Not Buddy, is a splendid book. Not only is it a fun, fictional read, but it is also takes place during the Great Depression, so readers can learn about that as well.
The main character in this book is—you guessed it—Deza Malone! You might have met her briefly in Bud, Not Buddy, but this book is solely about her story. It begins before she meets Bud and explains how she got to Hooverville. It also tells us how she felt about Bud.
Speaking of Bud—he’s here too! We’ve got the whole gang! Bud is not in this story for very long, but it’s nice to see the shy, determined Bud from Bud, Not Buddy again.
I would recommend The Mighty Miss Malone for kids ten and older, because of a part in the book where it might be a bit scary for younger children. But if you’re ten or older, then you can’t miss this book!
One plus is you do not need to have read Bud, Not Buddy to understand this book. However, if you’ve got some extra time on your hands, then read both!
The Mighty Miss Malone falls into the must-not-miss category. And believe me, the categories don’t lie! You must not miss this book!
