Jerry and Maya are just like regular kids. They ride their bikes, play video games, but, they have a passion. Detecting. Jerry and Maya both run a detective agency. The Whodunit Detective Agency. Looking for a case, Jerry and Maya encounter the owner of the jewelry store, Mohammed Carat. He says that some of his diamonds are missing. He has three employees. Vivian Liander, the store assistant. She is having house difficulties and needs money. Danny Braveheart, the grumpy old jewelry cleaner. His dad owned the jewelry store before Mohammed Carat. And then there’s Luke Smith, who cuts the diamonds and sets them into rings and necklaces. He bought a sports car last week, and is new at his job. He seems to have a lot of money. Jerry and Maya, disguised as window washers, try to figure out the culprit. They have some suspicions, but they’re not quite sure. The ending was surprising, even though you kind of knew who it was.
I think the book is a great detective starter for young readers. It is violence free, straightforward, and the characters are fun to visualize. Even though the book is short and the print is large, the story is interesting, and I think this book could definitely occupy the reader for a rainy afternoon.
