The Best Friend Battle, by Lindsay Eyre, is about Sylvie Scruggs, and her best friend Miranda. Sylvie feels that Miranda should only be friends with her, but while Sylvie is away on her summer vacation, their friendship is put to the test. Miranda becomes good friends with Sylvie's baseball nemesis, Georgie, and Sylvie does not approve of their friendship.
Sylvie is self-centered at certain points in the book and she wants things to herself, but you can't really blame her. She does live with two psychotic little brothers. Miranda on the other-hand is loving to everyone and always works things out. Miranda loves bugs and insects and someday hopes to be a scientist. Georgie tries to be nice and fit in, but all he really likes to do is win. Especially in baseball.
Days before Miranda's birthday party, Sylvie feels that Miranda likes Georgie more than her. To fix this problem, Sylvie tries to impress Miranda with the best birthday present Miranda ever imagined.
Does Sylvie's plan work? Is Miranda still friends with Sylvie? To find out read The Best Friend Battle and enjoy a few laughs as Sylvie, Miranda, and Georgie work out their friendship.
I really liked this book, but I have to admit that it was a very easy read. I recommend this book for ages 7 or 8, because there are not many challenging words and the content is low. Simply stated, I am too old for this book and I was not on the edge of my seat. If I were younger, however, I would have been entertained the whole way through. No matter your age though, The Best Friend Battle will teach anyone and everyone that friendship is forever.
