Gabriel’s Clock by Hilton Pashley is a book based on a boy who is half demon half angel named Jonathan Smith. At first he has no clue of what he is, for his mother keeps him disguised. This changes when he wakes up in the magical village of Hobbes End. In Hobbes End Jonathan meets his grandfather Gabriel a fallen angel from heaven who has retired and is now the village clock maker. Then Jonathan has to find one of his grandfather’s clocks to save his friends and family from the clutches of an evil archdemon named Belial.

This story was a good and exciting one, Hilton Pashley put a lot of detail in this book and it was fun to read. However this novel had many things going on at once and therefore got a little bit confusing. This book was rated for 9 and up, but there are some very disturbing parts where children under 12 might get frightened.

Even though one of the main points of the book was heaven and hell there wasn’t much religion in the novel itself. I expected a little more religion, the fact that there was not much did not change how I felt about the book at all.
