Eragon follows the story of a poor farm boy who finds a big, round sapphire stone in the mountains near his town. He lives in a land called Alagaesia where elves, dwarfs, and other magical creatures live with the humans. He later finds out that the stone is in fact a dragon egg and the dragon, named Saphira, has chosen him to be the next dragon rider. When a couple of hideous creatures called the Ra’zac destroyed Eragon’s home and killed his uncle, Eragon is determined to kill the filthy Ra’zac. With the help of his town’s secretive storyteller, Brom, he and Eragon travel far across the land to destroy the monsters. However his main mission is to kill the tyrannical ruler of Alagaesia, King Galbatorix, which may not be as easy as Eragon first anticipated.
Eragon by Christopher Paolini is a great book to read. It definitely challenged me on vocabulary and reading skills. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. It will capture your attention with its fantasy and highly creative imagination. However, I would recommend this for people who have a love for fantasy. This is because all of the story revolves around Eragon and his dragon, and not a lot of romance or sci-fi admirers can relate to this story. The author shows Eragon’s coming-of-age and his loss of innocence as he continues the story. Overall, it was an intriguing book that I couldn’t take my eyes off of and enjoyed very much.
