Over the past couple of days, I have read a fun and educational book called Junior Genius Guides Outer Space by Ken Jennings. This novel is the fourth in a series Jennings is calling Junior Genius Guides. The first is Maps and Geography, where you can find cool facts about the world and become a master of geography. Second is Greek Mythology, in which you become an expert on the best ancient stories. And the third is U.S. Presidents, teaching you about all 44 presidents each with a new and enjoyable spin on learning.
Each chapter (or Period as he writes it) in the Outer Space Guide is based on a class in a school. In this specific book there are eight periods, each on a different space topic. The first period is named Our Mr. Sun, crammed full of incredible facts about our sun. Did you know that our sun isn’t actually gold or yellow or orange, it’s pure white, but our atmosphere changes its color!
This entertaining book will make you want to learn even more. About every half page, I would stop, look in awe, and then read it out loud to my mom. In this nonfiction hardback there is more than just facts. This useful tome has recipes, games, quizzes, and more.
With each new period, this book made me want to read just one more page. When I finished, I went online to look for the next one. I recommend this guide to all ages; it even captured the attention of my middle school classmates. Either as a read aloud or a comfortable book alone it’s fun and educational, great for any person.
