Ed Stein is a cartoonist, he did work for the Rocky Mountain News.He got his inspiration from a day in third grade. He was trying to write in cursive and instead drew a duck. Then a few of his classmates noticed. His teacher came by and looked at the duck.the teacher was amazed in what Ed drew.He then found his talent.
In college he started to study more fine art, such as sculpting, painting, and graphic design. He majored in art at the University of Denver.Although Ed majored in fine art his teachers encouraged him to do more cartoons.
¨You cant go to the grocery store and buy ideas, you have to think them up yourself.¨ Stein said. He sometimes just sat at his desk half the day with no ideas, but usually they come to him.Stein would start with thumbnail sketching, then go to over it with black ink. One of the advances he can do now is coloring the pictures in with color. Usually most of his ideas come from what happened in the world or what happened to him.
Mostly in Steins comic strips or cartoons, he put the same characters in different pictures. For example, if you see a little girl in a pink dress, in the next cartoon that little girl is a mom.Stine also likes to put personality into his characters.
¨The reason I took this job is because of the things going on in the world.¨
¨You never know what you’re going to have to draw.¨Ed Stein says.Ed Stein has been doing cartoons and comic strips all of his life, and he loves doing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
