At The downtown Denver Public Library, there are many different subjects to explore. Two of the many subjects are history and Genealogy.

The library gets most of their Genealogy books from donation. There you can find books of your family's history by your last name. you can also find information about where you lived or came from. Ariana said that the world’s largest genealogy library is in salt lake city, there they have every family history book in the world. They have more than the congress library.

You can also see some pictures way back to the 1600s and the Civil war. All of these pictures came from the western part of the U.S. Thanks to our tour guide, Ariana, we were able to learn how to preserve old photos like those.¨If its in the west its here.¨ said Ariana. To handle some of these photos Ariana, Chris (J-day group leader), and Sierra (the groups helper) had to wear gloves.

In most of the older pictures, people didn't smile because it could take 30 minutes to an hour to take the picture. These types of cameras were called field view cameras. Some pictures they would make new versions of them incase they disintegrated or weren’t taken good care of.

Another way to preserve old photos is by laminating them, keeping them in a photo album, or a scrap book. If you're not going to laminate them, keep them in a scrapbook, or album book, you must keep them in a temperature controlled room. They can only be out of the room for about an hour. ¨ I don't recommend putting them in the sun.¨ Ariana said,The reason why we should preserve old pictures is so we can have records of the olden days.

Since the fifth floor is only a reference library you cannot check out the books but you can sure have fun exploring all that they have.
