“Dragons Beware” by Rafael Rosado and Jorge Aguirre is the second book in a series called The Chronicles of Claudette; the book is about a girl named Claudette who fearlessly wants to fight monsters. In the first book Claudette and her friends Gaston and Marie fight a giant before their parents find them and bring them back home. But as you can probably tell from the title of the second book, she has moved on to bigger foes.
After Claudette defeats the giant she is determined for another adventure. Claudette sees her chance when the evil sorcerer Grombach comes to try to take over the city of Mont Petit Pierre. Setting off on a mission to save the town, Claudette and her friends travel a dangerous path to slay a dragon. They are tested throughout the story, encountering incredible creatures, such as the stone gargoyles, chomp trees, and Azra the Dragon. By the end of the book Claudette and her friends have had a truly epic adventure.
I loved this comic book the entire time I was reading it. It is peppered with obvious references to the first book, so I would recommend reading the first book before the second one. To me this book is great for all ages; the audience it is based on is 5+ so it would be a great read-aloud for the family. At about 150 pages it will take about three nights to read aloud, but if you’re a middle schooler like me reading it by yourself, it will take an hour or two. With great art, funny one-liners, and good morals, this graphic novel is overall a great choice for your next read.
