Cirque du Soleil has come up with yet another show, called “OVO”. OVO is a show about the insect life. It travels to the Denver area January 11th15th, 2017 in Loveland, and to Colorado Springs from January 18th22nd.

Cirque du Soleil shows have been seen by more than 160 million people since 1984. Can you believe that in 1984, only 73 people worked for Cirque du Soleil? At the Quebec – based headquarters alone, there are almost 1500 employees nowadays. Today the company has close to 4000 employees, including 1300 artists from over 50 different countries.

The press kit I was given reveals that “The name OVO means ‘egg’ in Portuguese. This adventurous symbol of the life cycle and birth of numerous insects represents the underlying meaning of the show. OVO hides an insect in its name: The two ‘Os’ represent the eyes while the letter “V” forms the nose. “

To create the musical score for OVO, Berna Ceppas (Composer and Musical Director) combined the sounds of bossa nova and samba with funk and electro music.

I also had an interview with Nicholas Chabot, the publicist for OVO. I was amazed to find out that there is a different cast team for each show. Cirque du Soleil travels to a different place every week, he told me. Nicholas says that the most interesting part of working for Cirque du Soleil is travelling – “I love visiting very interesting new cities and countries. ” Because they are a Canadian circus, all shows start in Montreal, Canada. From there they go all over the world.

Most characters have two versions of their costumes: the first is lighter for their gymnastics and acrobatics performances, and a second, heavier and more exact, for their everyday life. The initial cricket costumes required 75 hours of work each! Because of their complexity and the need to keep them tough while maintaining the flexibility and expandability of the material.

There are 8 acts — Ants (Foot Juggling and Icarian Games), Orvalho (Hand Balancing), Diablos, Creatura, Web, Acro trio, Slackwire, and Wall. I cannot give a personal opinion on this show because I have not seen it yet, but I am looking forward to it.
