This summer, me and some of my classmates had the opportunity to do a research trip to Costa Rica. It was definitely an educational experience and it introduced us to a culture that is different from those in the United States. Surfing is a very popular sport in Costa Rica so we got to learn how to surf from some of the best instructors. We also did a beach cleanup with some of the locals from the nearby town. The locals were eager to keep their beach clean. For most of this trip we stayed at an animal reserve called Reserva Playa Tortuga, which means Turtle Beach Reserve. During our stay at the reserve, we built a sea turtle hatchery, we went on crocodile monitoring expeditions, and and we worked in a butterfly garden. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone who wants to strengthen the health of the rain forest environment and loves working with and seeing exotic animals.
